The Student Council is intended to be the voice of the SBA student body as a whole and set up much like a government. Students take on leadership roles relaying information to their peers and considering their opinions in an effort to make the life of a student at SBA more fun, enjoyable, and interactive. Student Council members help with yearly events including the Monster Mash food drive and Catholic Schools Week. Each 5th-8th level homeroom elects a representative and any student in 7th or 8th level may run for Student Council officer.

The school forensics team is a place for students to learn poise, confidence, and all the aspects of verbal declamation needed in front of an audience. It is not only for those who enjoy acting (and talking in class!), but also for the shy and nervous who want to learn how to give better presentations and reports at school and in life. Team members compete in tournaments and a small fee is required to cover registration in these competitions. Commitment runs from September to March.

The SBA Chess Club is comprised of students ranging from Kindergarten to 8th Level. SBA Chess is fortunate to have Todd Andrews, from the Nashville Chess Center, as their coach and mentor. Chess Club meets on Monday afternoons from 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM and is open to all students wanting to learn to play the game.

Students wanting to become competitive chess players and members of the SBA Chess Team are, upon Coach Todd’s approval, encouraged to attend the Master Chess Class from 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM following the Chess Club meeting. The Chess Team competes in tournaments throughout the school year.

Science Olympiad is a team competition in which students compete in events pertaining to various scientific disciplines, including earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. There are three levels of competition: regional, state, and national. Teams which excel at the regional competitions advance to the state, and then national, level. Science Olympiad is open to students in levels 6-8.

Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Daisies and Brownies meet monthly in the evening at SBA. Interested parents may contact the Academy for information.

The National Junior Honor Society is open to rising 8th level students who meet the minimum requirements for academics, character, leadership, and service. NJHS Induction is typically held in early November of the 8th level year.

The Earth Club is open to all 5th - 8th Level students from after school until 4:30 P.M. twice a month. Parents can pick up their students by the Kindergarten pad or they can go to Aftercare. Check the Bear Facts and calendar routinely for the schedule!
