Many of our SBA students utilize after school programming following the conclusion of the school day. In addition to our regular Aftercare Program, we offer a multitude of learning opportunities for students in the afternoon hours. Muay Thai Martial Arts
Mondays from 3:15-4:15 p.m. *starts Feb. 24th-ends May 12th*
Grades: 5th-8th
Cost: $300
My name is Dj Miller. I was born in California. I found Muay Thai at 18 years old and have been hooked on it since! Classes will be partner-based. Kids will wear boxing gloves while their partner wears boxing mitts, these are included in the class price. I will teach students the techniques for how to punch and hold the mitts. As a class, everyone will practice throwing simple techniques that I demonstrate for an entire round, which will be 2 minutes. When the round is over, partners will rotate roles. Once 2 rounds have passed, and each kid has gotten a chance to practice punching and holding, I will introduce the class to a new technique. That is the main core of the program. A portion of the time will also be dedicated to plyometrics, conditioning, and stretching. I will dedicate time during stretches for the kids to express how they're feeling or what they're thinking. There is a therapy in Muay Thai that I think I believe everyone should know more about, especially teens. They'll be exposed to respect and discipline in a very cool way! Muay Thai teaches fighting, but it mainly teaches the need not to fight. Control is the key.
