The HSA is the parent association of SBA. All parents of students are members of the association. We are a
very involved and hands–on organization dedicated to enhancing our children’s educational experience.
We welcome each parent’s talents and utilize them to benefit the school — whether you are musically
talented, have an accounting background, can bake a fabulous dish that the teachers would enjoy, or love
gardening, we have volunteer opportunities for you.
Join the HSA
Parental involvement in the school community is openly and actively encouraged through the SBA’s
Home & School Association (HSA). All parents of SBA students are invited to join the organization and
volunteer in their areas of interest. Responding to invitations to participate in the Bear Facts, our school’s
weekly newsletter, is a quick and easy way to get involved. Contacting your child’s room parent and
contacting HSA officers directly are two additional way to become involved.
HSA organizes and assists in a variety of school and school-related activities, including:
Community-building — HSA hosts the annual Cookie Party for rising Kindergarteners. They also
coordinate an SBA family to welcome/ support each new family at the beginning of the school year. Each
fall the HSA hosts a family picnic, which is a great opportunity to meet all the families of Saint Bernard
who make up our school community. “Do Crew,” our volunteer work crew, is a great way to meet parents
while sprucing up our school.
Assist in the classroom
HSA coordinates room parents for each class of each level. Room parents
provide invaluable help with class field trips, parties, Field Day, and support the fundraising activities
and more. HSA coordinates dances for the 7th and 8th level as well.
Participate in fundraising opportunities
HSA’s major focus is fundraising. Our events include a Spring dinner and auction,
cookbook sales, and a magazine sale campaign. These events provide financial resources to fund teachers’
wish lists, provide tuition assistance, increase the endowment, and contribute towards specific capital
projects. Opportunities for those who would like to volunteer range from soliciting auction items,
chaperoning the annual lock–in, to coordinating Kroger and Harris Teeter cards.
Faculty recognition
We thank our teachers with a Christmas Luncheon each year and monthly with an
appreciation event. We help our faculty to feel special on Teacher Appreciation Day during Catholic
Schools Week as well as help with the daily events.
