List of 8 frequently asked questions.

  • Q: Why not just raise tuition to cover the costs?

This would make the school less accessible to everyone wanting a St. Bernard Academy education. Raising tuition to a level that completely covers the operating budget asks only current parents to contribute, but St. Bernard is a community that extends beyond current parents of students. The Annual Fund gives all supporters of SBA including alumni, grandparents, past parents and friends the opportunity to contribute with a tax-deductible donation, offsetting the rising cost of tuition.
  • Q: I already contribute significantly with my tuition payment. Why should I give more?

Tuition cost is the most difficult decision our Board and Administration makes each year. Significant effort is made to provide the opportunity of an independent Catholic education to all of our families. As a result, tuition dollars covers 87% of the school’s operating budget. The Annual Fund is one of the ways we make up the difference and pay for the “extras” like field trips, special guests and professional development for our faculty. The Annual Fund is about our entire community joining together to preserve the St. Bernard Academy tradition for both today’s and tomorrow’s students.
  • Q: I can’t give enough to make a difference. Why should I give at all?

The Annual Fund is made up of gifts of all sizes from $5 to more than $5,000. None of us has too little to offer. Every gift is important. Last year Annual Fund donations of less than $100 made up 27% of the campaign.
  • Q: How much should I give?

We hope that every parent, board member, faculty, staff, alumni, parent of alumni and friend will give as generously as possible. Gifts large and small are meaningful, and everyone must determine what appropriate gift fits their family. We ask that every family participate and be part of the common goal of showing full community support for the school.
  • Q: How do I give?

There are multiple ways to give. See options below or read more here.

    • Mail your gift by cash, check or credit card.
    • Give by credit card online at www.stbernard.org/giving or call SBA.
    • Make a gift of stock by calling Brooke Reusch, Director of Advancement, at (615) 385-0440.
  • Q: When is the best time to give?

You may give any time before the campaign deadline each year. Right now, while you are thinking about it, is a great time. Some like to give toward the end of the calendar year to ensure a tax-deduction for that year. Whenever you choose to give is the best time and will be greatly appreciated.
  • Q: Where does the money go?

Annual Fund donations go straight to that year’s operating budget to provide immediate funding for student and faculty needs that add value to our school. This means it helps to fund items like the salary of your favorite teacher (who has already donated to the Annual Fund, by the way), equipment for the science lab, library books, Earth Day supplies, student support services, uniforms for your favorite St. Bernard team and a lot more.
  • Q: Is my donation tax deductible?

Yes, your Annual Fund gift is 100% tax deductible. Your donation will be acknowledged by the school, and you will receive documentation to use when preparing your tax information.

    Thank you for supporting SBA!
